About Zara Zara - Reecha Tripathi

I recorded Reecha’s voice more than a year ago. before she left for bollywood. I played the music for it today and came up with some sort of arrangement.

gear + recording process.

About a year ago i recorded reecha vocals over tanpura+metronome on pro tools (digi0002)
I recylced and chopped her voice using Propellerheads recycle today.
And did the whole arrangement within reason 4, with the vocals coming from the recycled loops played on Dr Rex loop player.

updates:
hmm having aweful issues with the mp3 encoding on muzibo.. lame 128 doesnt like my mix.. so i am trying something else rt now.. hopefully this mix will be clear…

good work, especially the tabla in the antra!

i used to hate this song when it released, had good melody but horrible arrangement, i think HJ was so much in love with the vocal line that he neglected to colour it up.

This sounds great Jay. I love the intro to the second para and the tabla. Sounds fantastic. I feel Richa’s vocals could use a lil reverb..Chords at some portions were different from the original, but a good different.

Nice one there bro, i like the improvisations arrangements especially the tabla. And also the pronunciation of the word “Ungiliyon se” (I hated the way Jayasree sang that).

not happy with the lame mp3 encoding. it makes reverb sound very muddy :S. i need to do some research on reverbing techiniques/mastering techniques for tracks to be published as mp3.

Hi Jay

Not been able to check your upload as I am still browsing on my slow GPRS link.

I would be investigating the lame encoding issue once I get back (early next week) but we are indeed using the high quality mode of lame encoding. However if you don’t want Muziboo to touch your mp3, please upload at 128 kbps and we will not touch the high bitrate version (only a 64 kbps version will be additionally created)

Hope this helps

Regards
Prateek

aka ali, i was just commenting on lame mp3 encoding muddying my mix, not the nature of the mix itself.

there was very less (and right amount of)reverb in the vocals if thats what you r hinting at. but the vocal signal chain was far from dry. I dont like reverb in vocals. usually amateurs with less than perfect vocals hide behind reverb. its interesting u call lack of reverb “dulness” i consider that to be crispness.. and reverb usually introduces muddiness.

if u listen to the mix with subwoofers and good quality speakers or really high quality headpones like sennheisser HD580 600 etc
u will see that the binaural image of the vocals is centered as a dot right in the middle, above the sub-bass and the stereo arps which are spread from left to right. this contrast is highlghted even in the antara where the tablas are all around u, but the vocal is centered in the middle.
This is as per my design.

Jay,

Very good recording and music…..good arrangements too….I endorse Shashank’s view about vocals, lacked energy though the singing was at a bass, which is quite difficult for female singing
