Shashank Gokhale posted about 1 month ago in Interview Of The Week

Shashank: : “Today’s Guest is a GIRL who started her music from very small age and traveled her way of music right from Nagpur to the city of dreams, Mumbai. I personally know her from many years and I appreciate her way of living her life with all odds. Still she is the one who dare to follow her heart and take Music as a career leaving the good job behind. Mitali Nag was the First participant of a great entertaining show on ‘STAR ONE ’ called ‘Bol Baby Bol’ and was also participated again with none other than Salmaan Khaan(Click here)…and She is still struggling her success path in Mumbai…I am sure It would be interesting to read about a PERSON who actually living on the EDGE …”

Mitali, All of us are interested to know about you?

Mitali: : “I hail from Nagpur… belong to a family full of creative people. I have been raised in a musical atmosphere actually. My mother is a well known singer of Vidarbha (East Maharashtra). So that’s how I inherited music….though I sang my first song at the age of 5 we never planned to take music as a career. I am an MBA by qualification…”

Shashank: What was the factor which made to take MUSIC as a career over normal JOBs…?

Mitali: : “Just mentioned that in my last answer… :D they say people who are bitten by the musical bug will never be satiated in non musical or non creative things that they do… so was the case with me! Don’t u agree…?”

Did your family support you when you decide to do career in Music?
Mitali: : “My mother was worried a bit because I quit my job and there was no source of income as such… but she did support me with my decision of taking music professionally and luckily ‘Bol Baby Bol (TV show on ‘Star One’ by Adnan Sami) came my way unexpectedly too soon, so that was an end to my financial struggle. Touch wood!”

Have you tried for your own album or worked on any commercial projects?

Mitali: : “Yes, We have recorded 2 full albums with my friends Shashank, Susmit, Anurag and Kshitij from Nagpur. Unfortunately, We cud not get to release any of them due to lack of funds n lack of references too. But we might come up with one very soon. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I have also done some songs for regional albums.”

Who are the people who influenced you musically?

Mitali: : “My Mother!!! If you ask me about music Industry, No one in particular. I’ve always liked Ashaji as a singer… I prefer singing her songs. I’ve also been influenced by my composer friend Shashank who’s my biggest critique… With him and Susmit I enjoy singing compositions! But I don’t follow anyone particularly. I think my versatility is my quality! ”

What would you suggest to Musicians specifically GIRLS …if they want to follow your path

Mitali: : “Patience is the key to success. If u have d talent just go for it. As for girls…You have to play safe!”

What you consider as a biggest achievement in your life Musically?

Mitali: : “I am still a novice… I’ve seen immense talent around. So I feel, I still haven’t achieved anything yet! This is just the beginning for me. I am waiting for my turn for u call “The Biggest Achievement”

Do you have any memorable moment in your Music Life which you would like to share with us?

Mitali: : “Yes. I still remember my encounter with my composer friend SHANKY . I met him at an inter-college singing competition (where I won and he was Runner-up as there were no separate categories). He sang a self composed song and I liked it. Me and a friend of mine went ahead and spoke to him, complimented him on his song and asked for his phone number… And after that life went on as usual. It was only after one full year when we planned my album that I remembered about that composer Shanky and I asked that friend of mine if he still has that composers number…He helped me with it, and I was not hoping to get through him on the same number after one year dialed it. To my surprise I got through and it was ‘Shanky’ who answered the phone. He also recognized me and then on we started jamming in and he composed songs for me. That composing assignment was really an experience to cherish in my life. Well you can listen to DOSTI one of the songs composed from my album on Muziboo…”

What’s your Future Plan?

Mitali: : “Now that I’ve taken music professionally I’ve started the basic training that I missed. I am grooming myself for the reality shows. I know people would be kind of astonished to know this, but all said and done reality shows are the order of the day. And I think for new singers like us who don’t’ have any links in the industry, these shows serve as the best launching pad. I’ll make use of it…. ”

Well, Do you think it’s possible for anybody with determination to make career in music? I mean is it actually possible?

Mitali: : “Not just determination but as rightly mentioned by sunny one needs to have a formal knowledge about music. You should be able to recognize your weaknesses and Strengths. Proper approach and I am sure it is possible…”

And now Last and important question….How much part does Money play in making Music as a career?

Mitali: : “If you are looking for a figure then I don’t have an answer for this one. What I would like to mention is that money does play a part in taking music as a career just as it does in any other field as long as you have enough money to pay your tutor and the autorickshaw fellow who takes you to meet music directors. I think you sure can multiply it by your musical talent!”

Shashank: ”It’s really very exciting and encouraging to know about a lot about a girl like MITALI NAG who is finding her own way in the opposite direction of the STREAM . Does anybody agree with me? “
